CES 2011 - Active and Passive 3D Glasses At ...
Vizio has already released his 65 inch XVT3D650SV which they are calling TV with passive technology. This can be called the first TV which has used passive technology. For the last whole year, every TV manufacturer has launched their TV which you need to watch with active shutter glasses. For 2010 Panasonic won all the awards for the best 3D technology with their active shutter glasses.
If you think that year 2011 will be of passive technology and everybody will announce passive TVs then that is not the case. Vizio TV will need passive glasses to watch the passive technology. This year there are no other manufacturers who are bringing passive TV so we can say that Vizio is the winner. Of course everybody is already trying to convert their technology to passive.
The main advantage of using passive technology is that you do not need active shutter glasses which are quite expensive. While buying TV, you can get either one or maximum two glasses free. In case you want more, you need to buy. Wearing those glasses for more time makes you uncomfortable as those glasses are heavy.
For passive TV, you need passive glasses which are not as expensive as active glasses and they even you do not get flickering experience like active glasses. They are lighter compare to active shutter glasses and wearing it for more time can be easier and problem free. While watching Vizio, you should remember not to compare it with active technology.
The resolution for both the TV was different and with passive glasses, you can see soft pictures and fewer details. The minimum distance you need to get proper viewing is around 8 feet for the 65 inch TV. 1080p is the maximum resolution you need to watch 3D TV and active TV can give you that resolution but while changing it to passive, the resolution decreases and that is the reason, you do not get clear picture.
There are advantages and disadvantages of both the types and when you are going for the one, you should decide what advantage you are looking for. Active TV has more clarity of 3D as it can work with higher resolution but you may not be viewing it for more than some time.
In a few days time we might get third option like watching 3D without glasses. The technology which active shutter glasses has will be there in the TV itself.
