3D TV comes in more than a few shapes and sizes these days, but when two of the big dogs get involved in creating more content, it’s bound to make the news. And…here we are! Sky and Virgin Media are delivering plenty of 3D content over the course of the remaining year in the UK. This is great news, as one of the single, largest complaints about the 3D platform is the lack of content. This should shake things up a bit.
Sky is paying close attention to the content of its 3D TV network, and the announcement that they’ve created “Colossus Productions” should be a shot of excitement to the industry. It isn’t stopping there, however, as Hollywood has decided that they need to step up their game…as if that hasn’t been decades in the making…but I digress…
Apparently, the movie sector in southern California has been paying attention, as there are several 3D movies in the works that should do plenty to thrill fans of 3D cinema. And, with all of this excitement going on, nobody’s even mentioned the sequel to Avatar when talking about 3D Hollywood releases…not even in this article…wait…dang it!
The creation of 3D in post-production is likely headed the way of the dinosaur, as theatre-goers have been burned enough times to be skeptical, but with the new resurgence in content that we’re expecting, don’t be surprised it everything gets a mulligan. Movies like The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey 3D should do plenty to create some competition…why? Because this movie, due out in 2012 will likely blow the doors off of any 3D record that we’ve seen to date. Another Spider Man installment is due out next year, as well, so look for the 3D cinema to start heating up…right about when the weather does…
