Sony VPL-VW90ES 3D Projector review

Most of the TV addicts are skeptical when it comes to domestic 3D. It is necessary for the person to wear glasses while watching 3D videos and this is usually the cause of less demand for domestic 3D as most of us are doing multitasking while at home and hence wearing 3D glasses would certainly not make things comfortable.

However, try having domestic 3D in your home cinema and you would certainly rethink about your views. The VPL-VW90ES is extremely similar to the VPL-VW85 and both the devices look alike. However, VPL-VW90ES is designed in a manner tat it bounces the IR codes from the screen and hence it is a perfect choice for family viewing.

You would require a supplement 3D transmitter incase you are looking to install this wonderful device in a large size room. The 3D eyewear used by VPL-VW90ES is the same that is been used by Sony Bravia. However, you would require an additional filter. From the outset, this device does not look very big in terms of its size. However, you would be amazed to realize how big the device actually is.

The motorized lens protector is certainly one of the highlights of this projector. This lens opens on its own once the projector is started and also shuts down automatically once its switched off. There are two HDMI, a 12V trigger, RJ45 and one PC VGA in this projector.

The Sony VW90ES is certainly very impressive. It is also a lot brighter as compared to most of the other projectors available in the market. It offers seductive colors as well as silky shadow detailing. Once at work, this projector stays extremely silent, especially if you adjust the lamp and set it to low mode.

High quality sharp static images are offered by the VW90ES. Once the device is engaged, the general detailing of the image goes to a whole new level.

You know you’ve been thinking about it.  You’ve been looking at all of those 3D TVs and wondering to yourself, “why don’t I just get a 3D projector?”  Well, Sony is offering up something that you may want to take a look at:  meet the VPL-VW90ES.  Now, this is the top of the line rendition, but you don’t need to take the hit to the piggy bank just to get one of these into your living room.  Instead, Sony has released the more affordable VPL-HW30ES, which carries the same projection power with a few of the features removed.  Either one would look incredible in your living room, don’t you think?

Priced at $3699, the HW30ES has specs that don’t look like it’s a discounted rendition.  With a 70,000:1 contrast ratio and 1300 lumens of brightness, you should be able to impress just about any 3D lover.  The new upgrades are said to reduce the amount of 3D crosstalk that you’ll experience, so that should be a welcomed improvement.

Active shutter 3D glasses and the IR sync are sold separately, so you won’t be able to get an experience right out of the box.   But, don’t beat Sony up too much regarding the omission of the active specs.  When you consider the price tag for this unit, it’s actually pretty reasonable…
