The boss of Paramount Pictures says that 3D is not useful in the continuous fight of movie industry with online movie pirates. They will continue to share content on peer to peer networks easily.
Huntsberry discussed at the film industry convention about the present state of online piracy. He added that 3D will not provide a simple solution for this, because the pirates can wear the lens to the camera and take out the second layer easily. They will also counterbalance the 3D effects, before sharing the pirated copy in peer to peer networks.
TV and movie industries are very much interested in promoting new 3D technology and content. However, the question is how 3D will manage the continuous fight of movie industry with copyright thefts.
Problem caused by WWW:
Fredrick Huntsberry, the chief operating officer of Paramount Pictures has informed The Hollywood reporter at the CineAsia convention that online pirate is a substantial problem in almost all countries in the world. Anybody having internet connection can access pirated content easily. In the world of internet, everybody is equal.
Importance of consumer awareness:
The Paramount boss thinks that releasing movies online on theatrical dates is not a sufficient solution to the piracy problem.
He stresses that releasing a movie simultaneously will provide a chance to the pirates to steal a very good copy and make it available during the theatrical porthole.
The Paramount boss says that they have made the movie available in theaters only. The studios had taken a decision that they will release movies exclusively to theaters. Then they would make them available online and on DVD. Moving up the online release date into the theatrical window would open up the opportunities to get a high quality copy of the movie much earlier.
So what is the solution? Huntsberry sketched a four-part strategy- fine tuning business models, consumer awareness, legislation to fight online movie piracy and technology.
There is no single solution. We have to overcome online movie piracy by combining all these strategies.
