When you’re trying to find your way across any country in the world, Google Maps can help.  But, they’re changing things up by implanting 3D technology and giving you a new look.  What do the various landmarks look like when you’re trying to find your way?  This is the question that new technology can answer, which is why the change makes the news.  In essence, we’re seeing how the development of 3D visuals will impact everything we know about the digital world.

Friday marked the announcement by Google that they were adding the new implementations to the platform.  The ability to view routes in 3D can help travellers get a better idea of what they’re up against while on the road, and when you click the 3D play button, you’ll see everything as you would if you were there…more or less.  What you will see when you are previewing a route is a fly-by route that is stoppable when you want to see something in more detail. 

Areas along the way are searchable, so if there are particular landmarks that you want to scope while on your trip, you can learn everything necessary to help you determine if, and whether or not, you should make the stop.  Understanding how your surroundings look when you’ve never been there before should prove to be quite useful, and again, Google lands a knock-out punch when staying with the times.  Welcome to 3D Google Maps everyone, and there’s definitely something here that should change the way we look at digital directions.

When I first heard news that Sony was initiating the move to stop eating the cost of 3D glasses when consumers head to the movies, I was a bit perplexed.  I mean, don’t they realize that the goal is to encourage participation, not prevent it?!  But, then I realized that these glasses cost less than a dollar a pair, and if cinemas either eat the cost themselves or drop the price of tickets to offset the prices of the glasses, then we’re in great shape.   In other words, it’s “much ado about nothing.”

I mean, what difference does it make to us how the providers and cinemas divide their expenses?  So long as we don’t start paying more, I don’t see much of a difference.  Also, those of you that can’t stand the thought of wearing glasses that someone else has rocked before, remember that you will pay for them once, and then reuse your own pair again and again.  This is actually a pretty cool idea moving forward.

There’s no need to get worked up about this, and I’ve already read many articles blasting Sony for this move.  If it doesn’t change anything on the consumer end, it really isn’t an issue.  Now, if they start gauging us for the glasses, we have a gripe, and of course, we’ll take to the blogs to make our presence felt.  But, until then, let’s just hope for the best and assume that they won’t be raising the price on our end anytime soon.  Weigh-in below and let us know how you feel about this one…

So, you feel that your mobile has gotten a bit stale, huh?  Nokia’s Windows Phone as drawn quite a bit of attention, and while we are still waiting on confirmation regarding several aspects of the unit, we’re getting reports about some features that will definitely turn some heads.  Microsoft is giving Nokia a bit of leeway when working with the phone applications, and we’re hearing that voice controlled navigation and 3D maps will be included in the platform.

This is obviously a sign that Nokia wants to be the featured host of the new Windows mobile, and the inclusion of 3D building representation should do plenty to bring some oohs and aahs when on display.  Is this where they will stop?  We’re guessing not, but we’ll know more when Nokia World hits next month. 

We’ve seen this sort of thing before, as many mobile hosts want to set their renditions apart from others.  Microsoft’s latest mobile will be available under other monikers, but for now, it seems that Nokia is the only one that’s getting free reign.  We’ll report more once we see what Nokia World brings, but for now, we can simply speculate that this unit is going to blow people away…figuratively, of course…

Now, I don’t mean to upset you guys and gals when I mention this, but for now, it seems that we can only watch and drool as Japan is getting the first crack at the Sharp IS13SH.  This unit features a glasses-free 3D display, 720 x 1280 resolution, and a gig of RAM.  Basically, it will be rocking your world in no time.  Isn’t it amazing how quickly we’ve begun seeing so much 3D action with glasses since the 3DS?  It’s easy to forget Nintendo’s overall tech contributions sometimes, isn’t it?

But, back to the task at hand:  Sharp’s latest release features a 4.5-inch screen which has become pretty standard these days, but with the 12 megapixel CMOS sensor and DLNA support, this thing can really hum.  Infrared connections and Bluetooth 3.0 capability push the IS13 over the top. 

Word is that SoftBank will be carrying the unit in Japan, and while we don’t have much information yet about when the rest of us will get a rendition, rest assured it’s on the way.  December marks the release date, so we’ll have more information once we start getting word regarding how this baby actually performs.  We have high hopes, that’s for sure!

YouTube is now giving you that 3D content you’ve been looking for to take that shiny new 3D monitor for a spin.  Your standard 2D videos are now completely convertible, giving you the ability to take your favs and bring them to the next level.  When you’re on the popular video hosting site, simply click “Edit Video” and you’ll notice a 3D Video icon off to the right.  It’s getting pretty simple, isn’t it?

Your 2D video will remain available, but a 3D rendition will also be present, giving you the ability to “Broadcast Yourself” in the 21st century.  There’s nothing like making the next Avatar with your D&D friends, is there?  Granted, the conversions still have some advancement required, but for now, with so many starved for 3D content, it’s definitely a welcomed report. 

This also comes on the heels of the “YouTube 3D Video Creator” provided by the website that allows for 3D content creation via 2 camera angles.  The application has proven to actually deliver some good results, so those of you that have an interest in posting your pranks, art, or “Stop Hating Brittney” videos can now do so in 3D.  I definitely can’t wait to see your exploits in 3D…this should be a riot.

Now, I’ll preface this report with a single warning:  unless you’re insanely wealthy, you probably won’t be seeing one of these projectors in your home.  However, theatre owners generally are insanely wealthy, so expect to begin seeing the RED 4D 3D laser projector in theatres in the near future.  The company has long been known for putting out some of the world’s best digital video cameras, and it seems that they are now turning their attention from capture to delivery.  Getting incredible footage is nothing if there’s no way to view it with similar technology, right?

We don’t have many details regarding the projector, as CEO Jim Jannard tends to be a bit secretive, but that didn’t stop him from teasing the market a bit.  What we do know at this point is that the projector relies on passive 3D visuals in lieu of the active 3D option.  Rumors are flying regarding the level of quality from the new RED unit, but we’ve heard that Element Technica co-founder Stephen Pizzo was left “speechless”.

Hmm, that’s intriguing isn’t it?  There should be plenty of hype coming in the next few weeks, so keep your eyes and ears peeled.  We’ll do our best to stay on top of this story and bring you more details as they come.  For now, just know that there’s a new 3D projector that’s likely going to alter the way we see 3D cinema…I for one, can’t wait!

For 3D imaging till today we were using multiple lenses, but now an Italian company has found a key to use a single lens.  They are using pulsed laser energy to give three dimensional images.

By using a CMOS sensor to collect the light while returning, a camera can see light pulses which reflect from an object which is like to sonar.  The image is not a photo quality or a movie image but can be used for gaming.  Details are still not clear and sketchy but it is a just a starting  and we need to wait and see for further news.

Earlier it was only the movies that were going 3D. Now we have laptops, computers, video games and sound systems as well. The latest addition to this list is the mobile phone.
Motorola is one of the most sought after companies when it comes to mobile phones. It has recently launched a 3D flip cell phone and it will be called the “Ming” or the Moto MT820.  This new wonder of technology has 2 screens and a glasses-free 3D. Could it be thick then?
The dual-screen 3D patent for which Motorola has just applied says that each screen displays 2D content and when you shut the top half suddenly you’ll see the 3D content.

IMAX makes giant movie screens and projectors to stand away from aggressive competition. It has earned $115 million in this quarter, which is 37% more than the previous year. Avatar gave the company a boost last quarter. However, the revenues are increasing especially because of the 3D movies like Toy Story 3 and Iron Man 2. These movies bring a lot of audiences.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Batman and the Hobbit are some other blockbuster films. Disney approved to give three more 3D films to IMAX in 2011. Chuck Viane, president of distribution, Walt Disney Studios Motion pictures said that the IMAX experience provides a great range of thrill and amusement to the movie. Cars and Pirates of the Caribbean are some of the planned projects of Disney.
