LG isn’t backing down from all of the other heavyweights and their obsession with active shutter 3D technology.  The electronics giant continues to release passive 3D units that stand up well to the other releases, and the 55-inch Nano Full LED Cinema LW9800 3D HD unit will do plenty to help sway consumers toward the passive take on 3D visuals.  Why do we love this unit so much?  Ah, let us count the ways…

First off, LG has to be thrilled that this is the first passive unit to get THX certified, which means that it passed more than 400 3D visual exams by George Lucas’ entertainment technology conglomerate.  The Nano LED technology really makes the picture pop, so if you’re one of those couch surfers that can’t get enough of incredibly clear TV pictures, then you’ve probably found your dream television.

However, this isn’t what really draws us to the LW9800.  The Smart TV platform that LG is so proud of does everything you could possibly hope for.  You can Skype, utilize online video streaming services, and of course, use all of LG’s fun TV applications.  Passive 3D technology has often been the step-child in the 3D industry, which is why LG couldn’t have timed this any better.  The LW9800 delivers everything you could hope for, but priced at $3,799, it’ll be interesting to see how quickly we see a market-wide adoption.

IFA hosted plenty of tech juggernauts that were bragging about their latest release, and LG held up their end of the bargain by reminding us that the passive Cinema 3D line can hold its own.  In fact, the company’s displays at IFA were an absolute hit, and there was no doubt that they plan on sticking with the passive technology. 

LG has long battled the competition when it comes to passive 3D technology, and with some Hollywood producers stepping out and admitting that the use of such a platform would likely help adoption rates (of 3D, not children), it seems that LG is just getting started.  We saw Cinema 3D launched in April, and since, have noticed that many are gasping at the quality they get through the units.  Why does passive 3D technology intrigue us, so?  Ah, let us count the ways…

Primarily, the glasses are much lighter and do not need batteries.  Because of the aforementioned design, passive 3D glasses are also much cheaper.  Further, research is showing that many are turning toward the passive option due to these factors plus a few more involving the cost of the units themselves. 

When considering how gamers feel about it, don’t sleep on the fact that passive technology is working up the “dual-view” option for gamers, essentially giving you two screens for head to head action.  With all of these things in mind, there’s no doubt that LG has plans for the Cinema 3D passive line, and after IFA, I think everyone is starting to believe…

Again the Korean company LG is in the news for their upcoming release. Instead of disclosing the complete set of plans for the CES 2011, they plan to reveal their secret in stages keeping on hold the consumer’s curiosity. Today they made their first announcement about the latest 3D cinema set. The model is LW6500 that comes with an option of passive 3D glasses which will replace the popular shutter goggles. This has received a couple of industry certifications to make sure that the 3D is flicker-free and fully guaranteed. Apart from these features the new model will assure the user a booster for neat brightness to make sure that third dimension switching does no hinder the brightness of the image or makes the picture look dim. The specifications of this TV are mostly unremarkable. The company is planning to keep your attention glued next week towards the CES and later it would be released in a few markets across the world.

In 2010 CES we saw 3D TVs from all the consumer electronic giants and if you think 2011 will be without any new technology then LG is giving us another surprise by launching mobile 3D TV in CES 2011.  The new model from LG can be viewed while on move and will support 3D video playback.  The model can be views even if the vehicle is speeding 125MPH.  Currently the device does not have any product name and nothing has been disclosed about its portability.  Looks like meant for people who are travelling by the bullet trains   of Japan where speed is high.

If you want to know what LG is up to for the CES - 2011 then they are going to show glasses free 3D display of Smartphone and tablets.  It is 4.3 inches touch screen WVGA and the pixel resolution is 480x800.  The device can be used for 3D display on video.  You can play games also without using glasses.

It has used the applied parallax barrier technology along with the light blocking slits on the front panel.  This shows different things to your left as well as right eye. This gives you the required 3D effect.

The display gives the variety of angles and free images as well as the straightness of the barriers.  LG is going to reveal all its facilities with LG Optimus Android tablet.  LG needs the auto stereoscopic display to differentiate its tablet which is like iPod.

If you check last year’s 3D TV sale then the industry has not gained much as per the expectations.  LG has their own reasons for that.  According to them we can change the picture upside down by some corrective actions.  First one is less material for 3D viewing which will reduce as more and more people are coming forward for producing 3D pictures and second and more important is unavailability of the Passive 3D glasses instead of active shutter glasses which are expensive as well as heavy.  They describe it as FPR – Film Pattern Retarder.  FPR can make your 3D viewing cheaper as you need passive 3D glasses to watch the thin film over the LCD.

Out of all the three reasons LG is taking immediate action against the second one that is replacing the active shutter glasses.  They have stopped manufacturing active shutter glasses.  This should be the beginning of the FPR.  They are going to introduce this in the USA by this April. 
LG gave demo of the same technology in the press conference arranged by them at CES-2011 and most of the press people felt the competition is with 6Hz, 120Hz and 240Hz which most of the motion demos TV manufacturers used.  If we compare it with Samsung 3DTV with active shutter glasses then it was full of crosstalk and jittery.  FPR was quite free moving and easy.   LG was defensive about the claim from others saying FPR is not complete HD as in FPR each eye receives only 540 lines as against in HD that receives 1080 line.  LG refuse to accept it and said that even FPR is full HD as it receives total 1080 lines.

LG further claims that their new technology is at par with the HD and there will not be any reduction in the brightness of the 2D matter.  LG maybe more aggressive about FPR but there are more people who are talking about FPR and FPR can be the flavor of 2011 as there are some other companies like Vizio, Philips who have already started bringing FPR in the market.  Vizio has already supplied TVs to Wal-Mart or Sam’s club.

The next step is wait for the general public’s reaction to this new change as the price of the TV will increase because of the FPR.

LG announced the A520 a few days ago, adding to it’s laptop line. Described as a 3D powerhouse notebook, the A520 incorporates LG’s new FPR technology 3D, which they believe is the future of 3d. As we’ve seen before, FPR promises a better 3d experience with lighter and cheaper glasses which are said to strain your eyes less.

The A520 also has a full HD LED backlit screen, and SRS audio. It is also equipped with a GT540M and a second generation i7 processor. It also has a Bluray drive, HDMI out and Bluetooth 3.0. Your can get an A520 in either wine-red or purple-black brushed aluminium. It is set to release in the UK in the first quarter of 2011. No price has been given yet.

CES has been a wonderful time. LG has announced five new 3D plasma TVs to add to it’s 3D range. The 3D plasma televisions featuring active shutter technology range in sizes from 42 inches to 60 inches, and are all THX certified.

LG has also announced that nearly half of their TV offerings for the year 2011 are planned to be 3D enabled, further backing up the tie up with Sky UK, and becoming their first choice for 3D enabled tvs.

Of the five tvs offered, two of them (one 42” and one 50”) feature Dynamic 3d, a Freeview HD tuner, DivX HD and TruMotion 600Hz technology.

The other three take it one step higher, and are branded as the connected Smart TVs. They add to the two above with a magic motion remote control and a Home Dashboard which makes it easier to manage your content by implementing Smart Share. It is also linked to the cloud with LG’s own apps tailored specifically to the TVs. It has a web browser as well, like most of the new TVs at CES.

3D TVs is the fragrance of the season and LG is capturing it.  At CES -2011 the Korean giants of Consumer Electronic has decided to launch new range of 3D AV goodies.

HX996T is the first Home theatre system from LG. it has a great sound and 3D image.  It has the vertical 3D effect channel which gives you sound from the top of the tallboy speakers.  The power of this sound is 7.1 and you do not need to put extra brackets at home for keeping it.

HB906SB is another Blu ray player which LG is launching in CES – 2011.  This also can be called home cinema system.  It has 1100 watts of sound system and it uses LG’s new digital signal processing.

HX996TS and HB906SB are two another systems from LG which will have Wi-Fi and can support USB.  There are some more product from LG BD690 which is a network Blu ray 3D player that has smart TV technology and has direct compatibility to Wi-Fi.  This is first in the market.

BD690 is the next version of the BD390 range.  The rates and UK release dates are yet to come out and everybody is looking forward to it.
