Unity and Adobe announce 3D graphic support for Andriod devices

You knew it was coming.  Your personal handheld device (it seems insulting to still call them cell phones) can now support 3D technology.  Unity Technologies can now support 3D graphics on Andriods.  That’s right.  Your Andriod can now give you great 3D effects, just like we’ve seen in similar Apple devices.  The announcement, made earlier today, shows just how quickly the 3D movement is gaining momentum. 

The Unity 3D plug-ins are found virtually everywhere, so the compatibility options that this creates are endless.  From just about every smartphone to tablet computers, this announcement will give almost everyone the ability to enjoy 3D graphics on their favorite hand held device.

Ever tried downloading 3D games from the internet?  Good luck, as the time it will take will often deter even the most avid gamer, but with Unity, the plug-in eliminates the loading times.  This works for Unity as much as it does for you.  See, the benefit for you is obvious, but theirs may not be so noticeable.  By giving all of these devices the capability to provide 3D graphics, Unity has ensured that any game developer with the future in mind will design their products to handle the Unity technology, and this ensures staying power.

In addition to Unity’s play at the market, Adobe recently announced that they will offer 3D capability through its Flash player, and any box running it can support 3D graphics.  Wow, this is moving quickly, isn’t it?  Unity has support features that Flash doesn’t, so this shouldn’t muscle Unity out in any way, but it’s obvious that some serious blows are being fired from both sides.  And, who benefits from a battle like this….we do!

Amimon isn’t a name that’s used around homes a lot, but it is one of the big names in the Wireless Home Digital Interface consortium, or the WHDI. Asus, on the other hand, is a well known computer manufacturer, especially popular among gamers for their high performance mother boards and monitors. Today, Asus has teamed up with Amimon to bring us WAVI 3D. It’s basically a wireless PC to TV kit that takes your games from your computer monitor and blows it up to put it on your big screen TV. Best of all, it supports 3D content.

So what does this mean for the consumer? Well, you can now wirelessly play 3D games on your TV, or stream 3D movies on the big screen so that you can watch it in full effect. The WAVI PC-to-TV kit basically makes your 3DTV in the living room a wireless monitor for your PC. It also comes with a virtual link USB that let’s you control the PC wirelessly.

Asus has always been behind the WHDI, and is one of the first to team up with Amimon to bring WHDI to the consumer. The WAVI apparently streams uncompressed video from the PC, at 1080p and a 60Hz refresh rate to a distance of up to 100 ft. It also supports multiple links, which means that streaming from your PC isn’t limited to just one TV. The demo that was shown had virtually zero lag, which is essential for gamers. The WAVI does, however require HDMI 1.4a, and supports HDCP 2.0 for digitally copy protected content. No price was announced, but it is said to be available during the first quarter of 2011.

Nintendo has already declared their 3DS. According to one of the Japanese blog even Apple is ready with their glass free 3D technology for iPod.

As per the rumors the company has started ordering glass free 3D LCD panel for iPod touch. The panel is similar to the one with Sharp company’s LCD which can display 3D image without the help of glasses while on horizontal and vertical position.

The information has leaked from the vendor who has been providing the LCD panel to the Apple. He is supplying many other parts to the company.

The information about Sharp is quite surprising as many people are aware of the Sharp glass free autostereoscopic 3D display at CES -2011 and liked it. At the same exhibition many people took the image of the LCD with their phones/cameras. Sharp is already on their way for unveiling the technology this year. The exact date is not yet officially declared by the Sharp people.

All these stories may not be true and there are many speculations in the industry about the new 3D products and until the product arrive in the market, people publish these kinds of stories to gain publicity.

As per some other news Apple can process his product without Touch. Touch will definitely make his processor faster and can improve the camera clarity. The current design is good enough to impress people and in case they want to increase the battery life without Touch then they can always make it little thicker which will not spoil the look of the product.

Finally, no one knows the plan of action about 3D Touch. Nintendo is already coming to the US market on March 27,2011. First Apple can see the response of the technology and then decide whether it is really required or not.

If you have Nintendo 3DS then you should check what all games are possible with it as there are quite a few new games Nintendo has introduced. In the recent press event Nintendo has given demo of several games.

Many of the games were quite interesting but few games were added just to increase the number and push 3D technology.

Street fighter IV is one of the games which have great 3D conversion. The effect of 3D has changed the 3D graphics in a better way. The game is also there on 3DS StreetPass. It allows 3DS console to exchange the game with each other if more than one player is online. Even in sleep mode it works the same. This can be called the new concept and it is happening first time on handheld.

Rest of the game has not much new concepts and is more into latest 3D graphics, which has changed the mood of the game. All the games are quite colorful and bright which includes ‘Resident Evil’ where Zombi is in 3D comes to your fact to eat you. The rest of the characters and story is similar to the older version.

Another famous game ‘Legend of Zelda’ is also like that. The major change from the previous versions is 3D effects and few of the new controls. Rest of the game is same as the old version. If you are fan of 3D technology then you can be happy that all your old games you can play in the 3DS.

The 3DS gives you options about the technology. In case you want to play game in 2D there is a control which you can use. When you are playing in 3D technology, you need to keep 3DS in front of you in a steady place then only there will be good effect of 3D.

They gave demo of the few games which are not completed. They gave releasing dates of the few of the games as 2011. Nintendo has straight forward strategy. Instead of developing new games for 3D first they are going to convert their existing games to 3D as per the public demand. Few games they are converting with some improvement and few games without any modification.

After starting its original production in 3D with the sixteenth X Games last summer and telecasting the X Games 3D Movie in 2009, ESPN is getting prepared to cover the fifteenth Winter X Games across its different platforms. ESPN2 and ESPN are set to broadcast 24 hours of live sports in high definition. The ESPN 3D will provide eighteen hours sports action throughout 9 different individual windows. ESPN3 will also join the action with coverage of 34 hours that includes ten hours of streaming video and exclusive coverage. 23 hours of X games coverage is offered by ESPN mobile TV and the owners of iOS and Android devices will able to avail the action with more information. There will be 56 high definition cameras and 13 cameras that have 3D capability. The slow motion I-Movix camera that was used in the 2008 Beijing Olympics will be back in action and replays will be provided by the Mega Mo by capturing picture at 4500 frames per second.

Eighteen hours of X games action on ESPN 3D

As a part of their continuous goal to become the leading provider of content in action sports, ESPN3 and ESPN will combine together for televising live programming of 24 hours from the fifteenth Winter X Games that will be held in Aspen, Colorado from 27 to 30th Jan. Apart from the 24 hours of telecast by ESPN2 and ESPN, the leading sports network will also present the event of the fifteenth Winter X Games for 18 hours in 3D through the ESPN 3D. ESPN will also distribute the content of the Winter X Games Fifteen across its family of global platforms and international networks which includes ESPN.com, ESPN3.com, X Center and Mobile TV.

ESPN will deliver Winter X Games Fifteen to over 380 million homes and they will televise the event live to more than 150 countries as well as territories, that includes Asia, Africa, Brazil, Caribbean, Europe, Canada, Mexico, Israel, Australia, New Zealand, South America and Middle East. The most magnificent winter sport action will be delivered to the fans by ESPN on more number of platforms. This will include all the snowboard and ski action from the Slopestyle, Big Air and Super Pipe events.

ESPN2 and ESPN will come together for televising live winter sport action for 24 hours and eight different windows of the original event will be produced. Apart from this, nine windows will be featured by ESPN 3D. Highlights of the event will be aired daily by X Center. Sal Masekela will again host the Winter X Games along with several talented on air commentators. The nightly show at the X Center will be again hosted by Dana Jacobson of ESPN. Every episode of the X Center nightly show will run for one hour after the telecast of the Winter X Games. The live coverage of the fifteenth Winter X Games on ESPN 3D will be collectively hosted by veteran commentators Chris Ernst, Jamie Little and Kier Dillon.

Sal Masekela will be joined by a team of experts on action sports that includes Mike Douglas, Kevin Pearce, Chris Burandt and Zach Crist for the telecast of the fifteenth Winter X Games. They will analyze the events of Skiing, Snowmobile and Snowboarding. The telecast will also be joined by Canadian Skier Sarah Burke.

ESPN recorded the most viewed and highest rate Winter X Games in 2010. The fourteenth Winter X Games averaged a rating of 1.2 with 1628000 viewers and 1147000 homes on the ESPN and a rating of 0.5 with 635,000 viewers and 465,000 homes on the ESPN2.

34 hours of the Fifteenth Winter X Games coverage will be distributed by ESPN3.com that includes ten hours of steaming video and exclusive content of the competition. ESPN.com/Action will offer onsite coverage of the event on daily basis. The 24/7 website of action sports will feature athlete chats, live results, live video, event recaps, expert commentary, feature stories and photo galleries. Live 23 hours of the event coverage will be provided by ESPN Mobile TV. The viewers of the Mobile TV will be capable of participating in text voting and they will receive mobile alerts throughout the day. The mobile applications of the Winter X Games Fifteen will be available on the Android devices and other devices like the iPhone and the iPod Touch. These applications include venue information, athlete bios, customizable schedules, photo galleries and results.

On Demand TV and Mobile will carry the contents of the Winter X Games Fifteen featuring daily highlights along with Best of Snowboard, Best of Snowmobile and Best of Ski. It will also offer past highlights from the last three Winter X Games events and the titles of Shaun White. The event will be telecasted on the international broadband network of ESPN in 12 countries.

Recently Nintendo has announced that they are going to shift 3DS units of 1.5 million in Japan and about 2.5 million of the new handheld consoles in the other parts of the world by March. President of Japan Satoru Iwata has set a target of supplying 4 million of 3DS all over the world despite the complication of this financial year of the company.

Winter X Games 15 will be broadcasted 24 hours live by ESPN2 and ESPN in high definition, from 27th January to 30th January, 2011. The games will be broadcasted from Aspen in Colorado. 18 hours of games will be telecasted live by ESPN 3D and all 15 hours will be telecasted by ESPN3.com. The ESPN2 will also show X center which is the Winter X Games’ highlight show on daily basis in addition to the full coverage of all the competitions in the 15 Winter X Games.

For the high definition production eight trucks and approximately fifty six cameras will be used. The entire show of the X center will be shot in high definition and all the daily highlights will be shown in full high definition. For the 3D production they will use 2 trucks and approximately 13 cameras.

Technology

ESPN will use different types of technologies for telecasting the event.

Huck Tower: The Huck Tower is a 30 feet tall LCD tower. During every contest it will show the height of the individual runs of the athletes in real time. The television viewers will be able to see various graphic inserts which will show the amplitude, both live as well as in replays. This innovative technique is powered by the Emerging Technology team of ESPN that plays an important role in the television coverage of the Winter X Games.

The Huck Tower will be controlled by video tracking in the Winter X Games 15. ESPN will place 4 small form high definition cameras and will calibrate them down on both sides of the Super Pipe. Then the footage taken from these cameras would be stitched together. With the help of proprietary software, ESPN will identify the athletes and then isolate them and track them for the entire run. The height information will be displayed on the Huck Tower in real time.

Quickscore: This is an instant scoring technology which is used for reporting the scores during the Snowboard Street event at the Winter X Games Fifteen.

Mega Mo: This device is also called I-Movix and is capable of recording almost 4500 frames per second helping in unbelievably detailed and clear replay. This particular technology will be used for telecasting the entire event of Winter X Games. ESPN will use two different I-Movix cameras as a part of telecasting system.

Cameras

Fly Cam: This is an aerial camera that is placed on a cable and delivers high speed shots from above the venue of play. Three Fly Cams will be used for the production of the Winter X Games Fifteen. A Fly Cam with 3D capability will be placed on the straight long way of the Skier X and the Snowboarder X course. This camera travels at a speed of around 90 miles per hour and can cover 1600 feet of distance that will offer excellent shots of the course’s fastest portion. ESPN will also position a 2D aerial camera over the Big Air course. The athlete’s amplitude and the athleticism of the tricks done by them will be captured by this camera. A 2D camera will be also used over the venue of Snowmobile for showcasing the thrills and speed of the Snowmobile competition.

Strada Crane: This is an individual camera that will be attached to a crane that is 90 feet long. This will offer magnificent views of the Slopestyle and the Super Pipe courses.

Robotic Camera: Seventeen robotic cameras will be features in the Winter X Games Fifteen. They will have windshield vipers. Eight cameras will be featured only by the X course to help in capturing unique shots throughout the competition.

Followcams: These individual cameras that are carried by the skiing cameramen and are connected with engineered rigs. ESPN will use this camera for covering the action on the Super Pipe, Slopestyle and Big Air courses.

Graphics

Near time visual effects: A new type of on air graphics will be introduced by ESPN for the Winter X Games Fifteen. It is known as the near time visual effect and has been developed by the Emerging Technology team. This is totally a new and unique form of graphical display.

Audio

ESPN will telecast the Winter X Games Fifteen in a 5.1 surround sound.
