If there’s nothing brilliant coming out of MIT, there’s something wrong. The school is at it again, this time with the thunder rumbling out of the MIT Media Lab. Two students there created a 3D printer that takes something created within Minecraft and creates a physical rendition. Wow, this is getting nuts. So, I guess that lathe in shop class is obsolete?
The included video shows you just how amazing the technology really is, and we watched it twice just to make sure we weren’t getting hoaxed here. Nope, looks like it’s legit, and I definitely need one of these in my office. The software is called Minecraft Print, aptly, and is available for download to your iPhone through…ok, we’re kidding…you can’t really download this…yet…
The sky is the limit for creations like this. Sometimes, you look at something so cool and say, “You know, I’m not sure what we’ll do with that, but I’m sure we can think of something.” Expect this technology to get expanded on, and before we know it, they’ll be as common as ink-jets were. Now, I gotta find out how much one of these runs, get my expense report ready, and try to sneak this one past my boss…
