At CES Toshiba had an event and most of the press was present there as everybody is curious about the new products they will be launching here at CES.  Usually these CES parties are not so enjoyable and everybody tries to skip them but occasionally you get some good information like prototype 4K glasses less 3DTV from Toshiba.

The set will be able to display 4K in 2D mode and the demo of the 3D was quite impressive as it was in 3D from all the position.  Maybe for home theater 3D viewing from 3 positions may not be enough as at home there can be more than 3 positions.  The quality of the 3D movie compare to the shutter glasses was not so good but this is a proof that Toshiba is trying  to do something which is inevitable.  Let’s wait for the final news and the price.

As promised, Toshiba came out with its glass free version of 3D TV before the end of 2010.  Of course they could manage only 12 to 20 inch version for Japan.  Today at Consumer Electronic Show  (CES) the company spokesperson has declared that 2011 will be big year for them and they will be launching 56 and 65 inches 3D TV.  According to Reuters, they will launch two models and the size will be 40 inch and 50 inch.

Toshiba’s head of visual products, Mr. Atsushi Murasawa declared that the product will not be only for Japan but also for America, China and Europe.  Till today they have not given any prices or the date of release.  The mystery will be there till somebody comes out with the details related to price from the Toshiba family.

Glass free 3D display remained a dream till last month. Toshiba is doing its best to provide the magic potion of glasses free 3D display. Toshiba’s two models belonging to Regza GL1 will be available for sale in Japan. It makes its debut of small 12GL1 that spans a 12 inch diagonal and offers the avant-garde resolution of 466 x 350. The price of the set is expected to be 120,000 yen, which is similar to $1,431. 20GL1 will be available for around 240,000 yen, which equals $2, 863. It will be available for sale from December 25^th. 20GL1 display is equipped with a more refined 720 pixel resolution and 550: 1 ratio. Both of the panels cannot be accused of being ultra thin or space efficient. However, this is the best at this moment. At present, it will be available on stores in Japan only.

The Wall Street Journal states that Toshiba is planning to produce large versions of this glasses -free 3D TV. This project will begin in April 2011.

Toshiba and Sony have joined hands together to promote some packages in 3D that will also include some expensive freebies for the buyer who is interested and can take home this holiday season.

The various promotion packages include a  3D Sync Transmitter, 2 pairs of 3D Glasses, 3D Blu Ray Player, or  a Starter Kit in 3D all this for free.
Sony is currently running two different promotion schemes on TV, along with the goodies depending on your qualification which would be based on the particular TV set you would purchase.. All these offers will be there in the market for a limited period. To be precise the promotion would be valid till 11:59 pm on December 18th.
