CEA is trying to get TV companies to allow users to buy one set of glasses for all 3D TVs. Right now each brand of 3D Tv has its own set of glasses. Which means that customers who would like to make a switch from one 3d TV to another have to shell out money for a new pair of 3D glasses also. But if the standardization happens then there would be no need to buy different 3D glasses for each 3D TV brand.

The standardization is only for 3d active shutter glasses. These glasses come with a hefty price tag and are not interoperable ie Sony's active shutter glasses won't work on Samsung's 3d tv. This proprietary thing sounds crazy, doesn't it? it's making the 3d technology even more expensive. I feel it's a good move by CEA which will in turn increase 3d tv penetration.

at last some common sense........now would like CEA to do something about glassless 3d tvs. I would prefer watching 3d content without the glasses, now who's with me?
