IMAX makes giant movie screens and projectors to stand away from aggressive competition. It has earned $115 million in this quarter, which is 37% more than the previous year. Avatar gave the company a boost last quarter. However, the revenues are increasing especially because of the 3D movies like Toy Story 3 and Iron Man 2. These movies bring a lot of audiences.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Batman and the Hobbit are some other blockbuster films. Disney approved to give three more 3D films to IMAX in 2011. Chuck Viane, president of distribution, Walt Disney Studios Motion pictures said that the IMAX experience provides a great range of thrill and amusement to the movie. Cars and Pirates of the Caribbean are some of the planned projects of Disney.

Just about anything we can think of will be delivered in 3D soon, as we’re consistently reporting new 3D content on a daily basis.  3net will be teaming up with Discovery, IMAX, and Sony to re-create Civil War scenes and deliver them to the masses in 3D.

The special will be airing this fall, and according to a press release will have 3D photos from the tumultuous period combined with the 3D re-enactments.  Billed as The Civil War 3D, viewers will get opposing viewpoints from a narrative perspective, and with scenes shot on location, including Gettysburg, expect quite an experience.

Tom Cosgrove, CEO of 3net, explains that this is only the beginning.  Plenty of 3D content is on the way including dramas and plenty of scripted series’ so if you’re in the market for such viewing, you’re in luck.  As the 3D giants have been releasing better technology, the biggest knock has included the omission of great 3D content.  Well, not anymore…

The good news is that 3net plans on shooting in 3D instead of shooting in 2D and then converting it, which should help push the expectations of the quality of such productions.  What’s your verdict?  Are you interested in watching some Civil War re-enactments in 3D?  This fall we’ll be able to check this concept out…

IMAX: Legends of Light – 3D slated for a June release on Blu-ray

No matter how old I get, trucks, tanks, and planes simply never get old.  Essentially, I AM the target market for the June 7th release of “IMAX: Legends of Flight” on Blu-ray.  IMAX has been releasing several titles to reasonable fanfare, and this one definitely excites me.  Following airplane design, operation, risk, and success of the Boeing 787 and the A380, this disc will surely give parents and children a bit of bonding time in front of the tube.  I mean, who doesn’t love massive mechanical beasts?!

Details are still a bit hazy, but with an expected price point of $24.98, flight enthusiasts will get an in-depth look at the history of flight, the technology advancements, and the ins and outs of the industry.  Watching planes at the airport still amazes me, and many are likely to be excited to truly understand how the technology is created, implemented, and eventually mass produced.  Look for this release June 7th, grab the kids, and ready some popcorn:  movie night at 30,000 feet is commencing.
